Corrections Policy
Effective Date: 23 September 2026
TawauKini is committed to accuracy and transparency. We recognise that mistakes can occur in journalism, particularly when reporting developing events. This policy explains how readers and affected parties can raise factual concerns and how TawauKini may respond.
1. What We Correct
We consider corrections where a published article contains a material factual error, materially misleading information, an incorrect name, date, location, figure, quotation or other verifiable factual detail.
Disagreement with an article’s editorial judgment, analysis or opinion does not automatically constitute a factual error.
2. How to Request a Correction
Send a correction request to [email protected] with:
- the article title;
- the article URL;
- the exact statement or passage in question;
- the reason it is believed to be inaccurate; and
- supporting documents, evidence or sources where available.
Requests may be assessed more quickly when they identify a specific, verifiable factual issue rather than making a general complaint.
3. Editorial Review
TawauKini will review correction requests based on the available evidence, relevant source material and editorial context. We may contact the requester for clarification or additional evidence.
A request does not guarantee that an article will be changed. Editorial decisions remain with TawauKini.
4. Types of Corrective Action
Depending on the nature and significance of an error, TawauKini may:
- correct the relevant text;
- add or update a correction or clarification note;
- update a headline, caption or metadata where necessary;
- publish an updated version of the article;
- issue a separate clarification where appropriate; or
- remove content in exceptional circumstances.
5. Significant Corrections
Material corrections that change the factual understanding of a report may be identified clearly so readers can understand what was corrected. We may retain the original publication and modification dates while updating the article’s correction information, depending on the circumstances.
6. Breaking News
Reports based on developing information may be updated as facts are confirmed. An update is not necessarily a correction. Where an earlier report contained a material factual error, we will distinguish a correction from a routine update where appropriate.
7. Allegations and Disputed Claims
Requests concerning allegations, disputed statements or matters of public interest will be assessed carefully. Where appropriate, TawauKini may add relevant attribution, context or a response rather than simply removing the report.
8. Good-Faith Requests
We ask that correction requests be made in good faith and supported by evidence where possible. Abusive, threatening or clearly irrelevant requests may not receive a substantive response.
